Cleaning tubing?

Acetone or metal prep that you would use in autobody work before you shoot the primer on.

We used some of the gel paint striper that I bought at Advance and mixed it with a little gas to thin it out so we could spray it on with like windex when we did the frame for my blazer.

I just use mineral spirits. Had good luck so far.

Personally, i use pepto bismol to clean my tubes. Prune juice works great too /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

take it from me i do this every day, we must get all traces of grease and oil off so we can paint the railings and fences we make of the tube, and we must warinty aganst rust so the best way is:

industral laqure thinner. don't go to a hardware store go to an auto body suplly and ask for it or primer thinner. a 5 gal pail is the best value cost me 35 bucks canadian a pail.
soak one rag with thiner an wrap it arount the tube and wipe it down followed behind with your other hand with a dry clean rag. this will leave no traces of grease.

watch out for this stuff its powerfull it will desolve a lot of plastic stuff so check first. great as a degreaser of parts ect. /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

a note keep it away from sencitive skin it onced splashed my pants yup down there ...... he waent to happy /forums/images/graemlins/doah.gif /forums/images/graemlins/yikes.gif

I just use dish washing soap on a rag, takes 30 seconds for a 20 footer and I've never had a problem with paint sticking /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

On a side note.. Alot of the tubing that comes from Sharon Tube has a water soluble(sp?) coating!

Another alternative for cleaning the grease style coating would be brake cleaner! It leaves no oily residue.

Brake Kleen
MEK (wear gloves!)
Isopropyl alcohol

Anything that'll evap without leaving a residue...
