Does anyone have any idead where to score a set of these!?! I have spent hours and hours looking. I know LMC Truck has something kind of like it... but I want a completely amber free light, like these. I have seen them on many trucks, but can't find them! I would be more than willing to buy a used set in good shape... any ideas? Sorry if this is in the wrong section. I have a 1988 Blazer.

I would post a pic, but it won't let me because I have less than 15 points. What ever that means.

I'm not sure if it's a State or Federal law but here in California the front side marker lights MUST be amber and the rear side marker MUST be red in color and this is to determine direction of movement from the side by police. Some vehicles don't have separate side marker lights so those vehicles have a "wrap around" one piece light that must emit those colors respectively. You might want to check to see if that's a FEDERAL law or not if you don't want a ticket or to be harassed.

Yeah, I am pretty positive there are laws on the books which relate to that on a federal level. If not, most (if not all) states have laws of that nature... but I'm not really worried about that. I am pretty sure if I'm going to get hassled, it will be for my tube doors, or lack of mud flaps, or any number of things. I had completely clear lights on my... well, Toyota (but I never admitted to owning a Toyota for the record), and never had a problem. I am sure the laws are why it's getting harder and harder to find completely clear lights, but I want 'em! :wink1:

Yeah, even if it is a federal law or every state has a similar law it usually depends on how the cops are in your area whether you get harassed or not about it. Here in California you can't get away with hardly anything. I bought a car a long time ago and the guy had put blue bulbs in the side marker lights and the VERY FIRST TIME i drove the car i was pulled over and given a ticket for them and that was literally about 1.2 miles (6 blocks or so) away from my house.

Well, I can kinda understand that ticket. Blue lights (and most often red when not to the rear) is a pretty big no-no.

Shouldn't matter what color the lenses are, long as the bulb up front is amber and the rear is red. Many new cars are like that, my Tundra is clear up front, seen many a car with clear in the back. Hit the lights and then there is color.

The color of the lense does not matter, but the color of the bulb does. So if you have a clear lense it's ok if the bulb is yellow. Look at the 1990-91 Blazers - they have a set of clear lights under the headlights, and the lenses are clear but the bulbs are yellow.

With that said, the only place I know of clear lights is LMC, but you may want to check eBay too.

I want to revise what I said above - I believe that if your vehicle had lights with integrated reflectors, you DO have to maintain that to federal and state requirements, but the color of the lense and bulb are a non-issue so long as they light up to meet those requirements as well.

They make bulbs that appear silver inside clear housings, but illuminate amber almost to stock brightness when turned on. Pretty sure that keeps them legal, and gives you the clear look.

The issue isn't legality or what bulbs to use... the issue is: I can't find the clear housings anywhere. I know they used to make/sell them, but I can't find them. So I am looking for someone who may know where to look.

the reason it is illegal is that federal tdot law requires a yellow reflector (hence the reflecter part of the lense) on the front side and a red on the rear (hence why the tail lights wrap around),

As I recall, this is why APC (American Products Company) went out of business. They used to sell tons of lights like that but that did not meet legal requirements and the government shut them down. I don't think anyone else has dared sell illegal products after that.

ok im new to the site but not building trucks. does it really matter if it is legal or not. i could count 10 things on my lifted blazer and my lowered silverado that aren't. if it looks cool and you can back it up, do it. i get tickets and go on. just pay them and kepp truckin.

you are correct apc did go out of business. check with Fender Bender Int.
or Hill's Hotrods.

if they don't have them or can't tell you who does, they are not out there. good luck, why not shave them?

Yeah... most of us try to maintain some sense of legality around here.

The reason you can't find clear corners for your '88 Blazer is that they are in fact, illegal. It is a federal requirement that there be a yellow/orange reflector at the front, and a red one at the back. Been a law since '68. For the 88-98 Chevy trucks, LMC sells clear side markers, but for only one pair. Any car you look at will have reflectors of the right color, even if it has a clear lens.

APC was put out of business because they were selling illegal stuff, so the aftermarket came up with "euro" or "altezza" style lenses, just to have the color in there to be legal.

these are the closest i could find to clear, the ones from lmc...
