Hey folks,

as you might know, I'm planning on stuffing a 6.5/p400 in my baby (84 k5 Truck). Got the truck disassembled right now, I'm currently finishing my frame (got it blasted, redid the axles and stuff, whole lotta work)

I'm quite handy concerning mechanical stuff & got quite a lot of tools, but bending & welding is quite new to me, think that has to be considered in following discussions :wink1:

but anyway, here's what I got:

6.5 Turbo exhaust & intake mainfolds
+ my standard (not lifted) 84 K5

-> as far as I got it, I will have to make some mods on the crossover pipe to fit the truck, Hopefully I can get an already modified crossover pipe, that would save me some headaches

-> the exhaust is the next "problem", think it will run outside the frame rails & hope the clearance is enough not to hit the wheels. I'm not quite sure which exhaust I want to run, but the fancy SS 4'' exhaust ssdieselsupply is selling looks quite fine (though I think it might me a little bit of an overkill)

-> the ac-box is a common issue, but I can get a S10 ac box for roughly $30, that should not be a big deal.

Well,
curious what you are thinking about these issues!

Greetings

Flo

I'm a bit concerned about the fitment of that downpipe in my K5, got a stock quad shock front axle setup, hope the 33s won't hit the pipe ;-)

... hehe, what about running a side pipe on the right side ;-) anyone done this yet? think that must be loud as hell :D:D

My cousin has that setup on his Toyota LJ 70 (turbodiesel). There is a short muffler just behind the rocker panel, so it's not loud at all. Personally I'm not a big fan of side exit, it sucks to dig snow under the axles/frame when engine is running.

I did have left side exit (behind the rear tire) on my Blazer, and when I changed it to the back, I noticed that side exit was louder.

@4x4 76:
Thanks for your help! That issue with the snow ain't so bad at all, we got a lot of snow here too but I don't plan on offroading my K5 so hard that I have to dig it out once and a while ;-) :D

@Russel:
are you running a custom exhaust or did you buy a factory-built side pipe somewhere ?;-)

I spent $800 on the whole thing, installation included. However, that was installing it on a longbox regular cab truck initially. I imagine it'd have been a bit cheaper to have them install it on my K5 as it only used about half the pipe, and I dumped it out the side infront of my rear tire
