i have a 2004 ram 1500 and now that the cold weather is here when i start the truck in the morning it clicks repeatedly everytime i turn the key until it finally starts. ive been told it could be a bad battery connection but i cleaned all that and it still does it. any other possibilities?

they could intermittedly work and not work? in the summer when its warm out it starts first turn of the key

Its electrical aka no rythm or reason for it to act any certain way. Id say solinoid/starter as well. Check all wires and connections first, look for any ground issues or burnt or tore up wires from the battery to starter and from alternator back etc.

Starter contacts in the solenoid are worn out. Real common problem with the Nippendenso starters. Should be able to get the contacts from a local rebuilder for under 10 bucks. Takes about 20 minutes the change them once the starter is out. No need to replace the whole starter, no matter what the goons behind the counter tell you.

Exactly.

what store would be considered a local rebuilder? id rather do that then pay for a new starter. its not that old

Any generator/starter/electric motor rebuilder will have the parts. You'll have to look them up in the yellow pages. Might not hurt to have the starter contacts in your hand so they can match them up as there are several different styles and sizes of denso contacts.

I agree with checking all other possibilities first!--I see a lot of starters get swapped out and the problem remains!...I'd see if a full 12V is getting to the solenoid "start" wire ,sometimes a neutral safety switch gets bad contacts and wont let enough voltage get to the solenoid to engauge it properly..so can a defective ignition switch...or corroded battery cables,I have seen them corrode as far as a foot away from either end and be nothing but white powder inside..poor grounds are another possibility too...
