Clocking a 241c for clearance pics!!!

Re: Clocking a 241c for clearance

If this becomes reality please let me know, I would be interested to do this myself. I know of a place in Oakland that specializes in welding cast iron. I also know someone with a CNC mill if needed. I am sure we could get something designed and built pretty cheap.

Have you talked to Steve at ORD? He's had luck with clocking transfer cases and he may have already looked at that setup.

You might talk to Kyle89K5. He posted a thread a while back about a clocking ring that could clock the 241. I think he has a contact that makes these or could make these.

Here's the info I've gotten to date. I will prb. start a new post in the next few days with some more of this info.

1) Skyjacker makes an indexing ring for the 241 case. This ring is to LOWER the case in a Dodge truck. When used on a chevy, it raises it. I plan on getting said ring and taking it to a machine shop for "adjustment" to make it clock more.

2) You can clock a 241 completely flat if you would like. The ONLY adverse affect will be the possibility of blowing oil out of the vent line. A SYE kit will help eliminate some of this. This information is DIRECT from New Venture Gear. You WILL NOT hurt anything. In all honesry, you will be doing some good. The parts that require the oil pump will now be bathed in oil. This is however why the oil may come from the breather tube. NVG suggest a vented oil resevoir on the vent line to help this out.

3) For SYE, NVG has stated that (I am confirming this with them) A 241 from a Dodge with out a slip yoke is virtually a bolt in to our cases.

4) The 241 OR case in the new Jeep Rubicon is NOTHING like the 241 in our trucks.

5) NVG has no real 4:1 kits that they recomend, but in talking with them, they are going to talk to some of their developers to see who "might" have the best or who we should contact.

I've been speaking with a couple of members of their engineering staff. These are GREAT folks and AVID offroaders.

If you have any more questions about this, feel free to contact me. I will be back in touch with NVG before the day is up.

Thanks.

KP

Kyle,
Can you ask them about solenoid shift 241s please? (if there is one...)

Or give me your contact - I'll ask...?

they are calling me on my cell around 3 this afternoon (when I'm heading to the salvage) I'll hit them up about it and see. What are you looking for exactly?

KP

what about a 205? i am dumb in the innards. does it have a slinger in it?

On second thought, I don't think there is an animal like that. The solenoid shift models were 243's if memory serves right. They also made some 233's like that.

Excellent Info Kyle!! Thanks!!! /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I've mentioned Skyjacker's Dodge Indexing ring a few times before when this topic came up but it never seemd to go anywhere! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I've also talked to the engineering dept at NVG by email & would like to second your comments about how
friendly & helpful they are! Great folks!! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Anyway; please keep us posted on your findings as I hope to clock my 241 which already has a SYE from Jesse at High Angle. Only problem
for me right now is that I already have more lift than the front driveshaft can accomodate so I'm not sure if I can
clock the t-case up any higher! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Good Luck in your info search

I am looking to relocate/eliminate the stock shifter. It will be in the way of the cage I am planning /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

If there is some way to move the linkage that would be real cool.

Thanks.

Thanks for the info Kyle, I am not sure the indexing ring is the way to go either , as it will decrease the amount of spline engagement , which isn't all that great to begin with with the factory adapter , there's plenty more available there , but I'm thinkin' you won't be able to use anything less than 1/4" for the indexing ring , and that puts the spline engagement somewhere around 1 1/8" /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif I checked with my metal supplier about a hunk of 4340 steel 8.5 ODx3.5ID and the metal is 300$ for 6" /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif I may still get it and make one , he's checking on some 1018 steel for me but he doesn't think it will save me a ton , this mod will hit the stock floorpan without a body lift/floor mods , I will be going with an ORD body lift 1" Do you have ant spec's on that clocking ring Kyle? steel or aluminum? thickness ? hardware?...............CC /forums/images/graemlins/usaflag.gif /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif /forums/images/graemlins/usaflag.gif /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif

There's upsides and downsides to that ring. The specs that I have are at work, and I'm at home now. Off the top of my head, I can give you what I know.

The ring is made for a Dodge, so it's not "bolt on" due to the fact that the Dodge 241 uses studs. NVG has okayed this ring and talked with Skyjacker about it. The loss of spline engagement is negligable to them. Not a factor. I want to say that the ring was 1/4 aluminum, but I'm just not willing to bet the farm on that right away. I'll get the rest of the info that I have and pass it on when I get back to the office.

I too am going with a 1" body lift to help clear this thing.

Right now, I'm working with NVG to determine what it will take to use a dodge 241 case and parts with my case and truck. The dodge came with either a slip yoke, yoke, or flange. I've got my eye set on one with a flange, now just need to get my stuff together and make it work.

I've also considered using a Klune in there. It will give me a lower ratio and clocking ability. The downside to it is cost. NVG doesn't seem to think there are any problems with the 241 handling it. They are proud of that case.

Kyle you suck /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Now find me all the stuff to do a doubler for my SM465, go kick yer ex buds a$$ and get back the np203 and adapter!

moving it might be possible. It's not directly mounted to the case. I'd prb consider that first. If you can fab up new shift linkage, than you could move it around quite a bit.

I was unable to ask them today due to being in the middle of a salvage yard on a cellphone. We were having to holler back and forth over noise, but I'm going to call them monday morning to get so more numbers on the Dodge case I'm looking at. I'll ask them if there are alternatives.

It's all gone /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
I went up there to claim it and he'd hauled every single thing I sent off for scrap. Then had the sack to ask for his new torque wrench back and his sheetmetal tools. Theyt are staying right here.

Go get a 4500 and a 241 and clock the fool out of it. THe options are there man. Why stay with that 50 year old tranny and case. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif:D:D

Cause I got it, its old iron, bulletproof (litterally!) and I am BROKE!

Look what I found!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Jb conversions
adapt.gif
the one on the far right seems to be exactly what we need , CNC'd BILLET ALUM MOFO !!!!! plenty of meat to redrill for clocking if it isnt already clocked properly!!! Looks to be clocked the opposite way for dodge /jeep apps May be able to get the TC end undrilled ? I will call for details on monday and update you!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/usaflag.gif /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif

AWESOME!!!

I've been trying to get ahold of JB for a couple days now. I've left LOTS of msg's. My bet is that is for a 231, but I'm thinking we could adapt it, or maybe get them to do something for us /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

BTW, have you got your exhaust re-routed? If so, got any good pics. When I move my case up, I'm going to have to cut my exhaust off and redo it.

KP

Just finished fabbing up rear part of exhaust , will post pics when developed , and am probably going to do something like derf00

but I don't quite know what I'm up against until i get the transfer case where I want it , the front shaft installed , and a x-member made, I will post pics of that as well as soon as I tackle that , also been leavin messages with JB conversions , no answer/ no call back??? Maybe he's working on what we need as we speak!!!!!! ...........CC /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif /forums/images/graemlins/usaflag.gif /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif /forums/images/graemlins/usaflag.gif /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif
