I am considering making a clocking ring for an oddball transfer case setup, but I am worried about its durability long-term. Some of these are just 3/8" thick. Other than the sealing issues has anyone seen or heard of a bolt/thread failure?

I ran a DIY4x clocking ring for about 10 years. The only issue I ever had was sealing it like you mentioned. Just have to really be mindful of where the RTV needs to go; big thing was circling all of the holes because mine and 2 different location options so there were some unused holes to account for.

I have one on an on again off again daily driver. All kinds of stuff is wrong with that truck, but no problems with the clocking ring.

Yep, first install it leaked. Second time no leaks. Been on there I guess 7 years now, no leaks, no problems, beat the piss out of it, DIY4x

Something to consider is how the cases, transmission, and engine are mounted. It’s been common to have damaged components or mounts because they are not mounted in a fashion so that it works as a system
