ok i have a 79 gmc i switched the cab on it and other things.. the hoses to the heater core seemed to leak a lil but not into the cab.. then i started the truck up days later just to start it and then it was leaking prity good and now into the cab. the cab had sat outside for a good while so that makes me think it may be cloged cause there is stuff behind the blower motor... i have replaced heater cores in other vehicles... but my question is how many of you have flushed the heater core and it fixed the problem without replacement of the core (were talking a posible same situation)?? thanks

If the core its self is leaking, then it has a hole in it, and no amount of flushing is going to do anything other than make it bigger.
Been there, done that.
I flushed a core that was not putting out the heat I thought it should, and it started pouring into the cab. When I got it out, I saw stains that indicated that it had been leaking very small amounts for a while.
The crud had kept the hole partially blocked until I flushed out the crud.

Samey-same !!

if its leaing you must fix the leak first.it will flush out the rust and other crap that gets trapped in the hole once you do flush the system.someone may have put in a block sealant and that slowed it down and eventually blocked the core.replacing it will be your best bet,and a permanent fix.

you could try a muriatic flush, but it's not worth the effort at $30 to $50 for a new one...

I've never seen a heater core in NORMAL service get plugged up.. a million that leaked, but never blocked...

yep thats what i was thinking!! if it leaks its ****....thanks fellas... i have a good one in my other cab...i cant belive how many bolts i gota take out to get that core out.. dumb...my ranger was a snap... o well thanx fellas !!!

I agree that for 50 bucks and a few hours time you cant beat a new core.
