On my 78'. When I make a turn at really slow speeds like backing out of the garage and stuff there is a clunking noise. is that something i should worry about?

Thanks

Gov Loc gone bad , bad suspension/steering component , driveline slop . Who knows .

Its a good idea to change diff fluid once in awhile and inspect that .

And its a good idea to take the front hubs off and grease the bearings once in awhile , so you can inspect that .

And its not gonna hurt to check your u-bolts , spring bolts , and shock bolts 9 and all bushings ) to make sure they are tight .

Check your frame around the steering box for cracks.

Too obvious , thats why I never mention it .

We all should buy a brace when we buy the rig .

I had a bolt on brace since day one , and when I broke my frame it made no bad mojo for me since I couldn't tell steering :D

Disconnect your drag link and isolate the gear box. Test, Reattach the drag link, disconnect the tie rod, Test. Connect the tie rod, yada, yada, lock one hub not the other, yada, yada, untill the proper isolation has brought forth the original clunking.

Does it make the noise if your not moving and steering back and forth? Leaf springs are notorious for making those kinds of noises.

what really questions me it doent do it all the time. It only happends at really low speeds, and its not all the time it will only do it once in a while.

Def check frame/gear box area. You notice any dif in the way it goes down the road?- floating or loose feeling in the steering? If yes then maybe drag link ends.

I was screwing around a little bit in my driveway, and its only one point in the steering. I will put the front of the truck on stands and see if i can figure something out.

Could have a rivit loosening up in a cross member or something. Get on the side of the truck and shake the piss outta it and see if you hear it.
