I have a 89 k5 and the clutch is acting funny. it's the 3 speed with granny gear. it doesn’t like to go in gear with the clutch pedal all the way in (down on the floor). I though that i just needed to replace my clutch then a buddy said that i could probably just adjust the cable and get a little more life out of it. He did it to one of his cars and said it worked but i would like to get a second opinion.

Any one know if this is a good idea and what is the easiest way to make the adjustment?

Or should i just replace the clutch? I know it's coming just want to get as much out of the old one as possible. If this is the way to go... any tips?

IIRC there isnt a cable to adjust. You should have a hydro setup, and with that I wouldnt know if it could be adjusted. If by chance you have the mechanical linage, then the clutch push rod can be adjusted.

I have no idea if an 89 has a hydraulic clutch as mentioned but if so they typically arent adjustable as their somewhat like a hydraulic lifter where the system takes up any free play as needed. if its mechanical there is an adjustment in the rod that seats on the T/O bearing arm or clutch arm. You do want to retain at least 1" of pedal free play in tha cab. to tight and it will slip,to loose and it will drag when pushed in and make it harder to shift. I for one would check the trans fluid level to make sure its full as reccomended. Other than that if its getting harder to push in and shift gears its getting closer time to replace the clutch, could be syncros as well if it has mucho miles.

You have a hydrolic clutch, first thing to do is make sure you ave fluid in it.

Must have gotten some air in the line, bled it and it started working again.
