How to measure for hydraulic clutch slave cylinder rod and how much preload on clutch fork is proper?

Search function isn't helping much with either topic. Maybe operator error.

What has worked for you?

Have to love OEM. Sometimes.

Didn’t want to add particulars to avoid confusion, but I’m working with a TDP clutch kit (so ford master, dodge slave), then jeep fork and aftermarket bell housing. I need some adjusting.

Along the lines of the advice in your sig. “customize everything”.

I don't think you really want any preload. The throwout bearing shouldn't be spinning all the time with pressure on it. If it was spinning constantly you would wear it out faster. I think you want just a little bit of space before the throwout touches the clutch.

Makes sense, that makes measuring rod length easy. Thank you.
