Clutch fork question?

Can I use this style clutch fork in place of the stamped one that came with the 465, the trans came out of a 1981 3/4 ton.

The fork I`m asking about is cast from a 1967 c10 with a 465 trans.

I'm not sure ,if you used that cast fork with its original bellhousing (cast iron with the open bottom & a tin dust cover) it would be OK,but the newer style "enclosed"aluminum bell housings with stamped forks had a different ball stud and clip to hold the fork on it,I dont know if the cast fork would be compatible or not..a '67 would have the cast iron bell housing with the open bottom,and two "side mounts" that GM carried over from the late 50's when they used the bell housing as a tranny mount instead of having a crossmember and tailshaft mount....
 
Well the cast fork from the 67 has a aluminum bell housing that is open on the bottom.
Not to say it original for that truck. I got no idea. plus I`m not sure how good it worked.
It was in my buddy's truck, when he got it the truck didn't`t run, and he changed it to a auto.

This is a picture of the fork I got with the tang missing on the left side.
Not sure if that will even matter much?

 
I suppose GM had a few unusual bell housings that were open bottom and aluminum,I dont really know if parts can be swapped between them or not..maybe yours is from a car of 70's vintage...you'd better wait and see if anyone else here has more experience on this subject...
 
Looks to me like it should be fine to use. It's not like there should be much pressure on it IMO.

That tang is just there to hold it for assembly no?
 
I recall having to miss work on a monday because my weekend clutch replacement job on my '72 K5 hit a snag,when the goofy looking wire clip that held the fork to the ball stud somehow dissapeared during the job--only place one could be had was a Chevy dealer...

The later style fork,the clip is more of an anti-rattle thing than something that "holds" it to the ball stud...I tried putting my K5 together with no clip,and the fork popped off after depressing the clutch pedal a few times--I was able to finish bolting everything back up,and fenagle the fork in "last",but putting the rubber bootie on was a frustrating chore..

I can say with certainty that that fork worked in a '72 with a NV4500 and an AA aluminum bell housing. :D
It's possible you'll need a different ball, but they are available from local parts stores.
 
It's going to depend on the clutch. I used the cast fork on a AA bellhousing and nv4500 and it didn't work without a custom pivot ball. It'll fit in there, but the throw was off and I couldn't disengage the clutch. The AA stuff is made for center force clutches back then.
