Ok i have a 465 and for some reason my pedal won't return back to where it should. The spring (from the fork) is located where it should i think and the spring under the dash is right cause it hasn't moved from where i put it when i installed the pedals. As far as i know the pressure plate should help with this right?? Could it be that the p.p is not working properly??

I just reinstalled the tranny and everything looked fine. For those that have to know i replaced the throwout bearing

Thanks guys and if anyone happens to have pics of the springs it'd be helpful

The big spring under the dash is what pulls the pedal back up.
That's what i thought too but it hasn't moved from where it's been all along. It used to work fine. When i installed the pedals i couldn't figure how it did it but it worked fine.

Can the spring stretch?? That's a pretty heavy duty spring and can't see how it'd ever stretch but i guess it's possible.

I had this problem with a truck with bad cab mounts it would shift over and not allow the pedal to work properly.
well i can't see anything gettin in the way. i just replaced all the mounts when i put the body lift on. i guess i'll look at the top spring again...

when i put the body lift on....

you replaced the throwout bearing... so this maybe null void...
did you do the body lift and had it all working..driving around before you replaced the bearing?

I have an odd question... did you put the extender piece into the rod?
a body lift for our setup trucks (when I had mech clutch) was
bolts, nuts, body lift blocks and a whatever size rod... so my 3" bl came with a 3" rod that you cut your rod and weld in....... if you raised the cab from the frame and did not extend the rod....

not sure if this means short rod would pull the pedal to the floor or not.....

I thought that spring, helped the pedal down. I had the same problem and removed the spring. All is good now.

There are only two springs for the mechanical clutch linkage:

One big one under the dash that pulls the pedal back up

One little one that holds the clutch pushrod into the cup in the clutch fork

Chris, I actually have three springs on mine. Found them in the GM catalog awhile ago. There is another spring that goes from the clutch fork to the frame and I believe also helps return the clutch fork and thus the pedal.
I've had issues with my pedal sticking also and spraying a good lube on the spring/pivot unde the dash seemed to help more than anything. If you can find something that is a high pressure/high temp spray lube that comes out as a liquid but sets up as a grease these work best.
2 such products are Wurth HHS2000 and Wynn's Viscotene.

P.S. With a body lift you may need to oblong the hole in the floor where the clutch rod goes through, mine hit a little with a 1" body lift.

Yup all worked fine til i took it in a mudhole

Well the whole setup came from a truck. It already had a rod extended for the 3" BL so i ordered one for my blazer also to get it too all work together. It worked fine before :doah:

ok guys. This may make it easier or harder.

when i push the pedal the big spring it moving upwards and towards the dash.
As the pedal comes back the spring is actually stretching.

Here's a pic for an example

My MS Paint skills suck

As for the springs I also have 3 and so does my uncle.

1.under dash big dpring
2.small spring(holds the clutch fork to the clutch rod)
3. big spring In hole above where the clutch rod is located going to the frame. I'm guessing this helps bring the pedal back up

I haven't looked at mine yet cause i've been working too much and the trucks at dad's I'll be lookin tomorrow after work

it worked before what? what did you change? did you get the clutch fork into the right position on the throw out bearing?

you think you got mud in the clutch and ruined it somehow? maybe a body mount broke and the cab is sagging now? check your floor.

fwiw, i only have a spring keeping the linkage together under the truck - none on the dash and it ALWAYS works fine - the pressure plate puts the pedal back where it needs to be... i'd be concerned about that PP

99% sure

Well i along with my dad checked the clutch and pressure plate and i didn't see anything that looked out of the ordinary. It was fairly new before i put the 4 speed in the Blazer

I'll be checking that tomorrow. I honestly don't remember seeing anything broke

i'm sure hoping not It's a PITA to take it in and out by myself.

a tranny jack is your friend - they make adaptors to fit onto regular jacks too. also, i don't recall if you've got a blazer or a truck, but in a blazer you can pull out the tranny tunnel and use a hoist/cherry picker (VERY easy that way!)

Damn, that is a great idea.. I get the feeling I'm going to need to do mine soon :doah:

I would have to get a trasnny attachment cause i tried the tranny jack itself and it just couldn't support the weight of the tranny and transfer together. I guess i could seperate them but just did it this way everytime i changed a tranny or w/e

I own a Blazer and 3 trucks but the Blazer is the one i'm having problems with. i think my Blazer tunnel is attached to the body. Not with screws but i think i'd have to cut it out if i went that route.

I'll be taking picures today so updates to come :D

my '83 blazer tunnel still is removable... i wouldn't think they would've changed it by '85... but who knows?

Well i'm not too sure but IIRC it's not removable. I could very well be wrong though

i went out to take pictures but apparently my camera didnt jump in my pocket when i left so i got all the way out there without it. Pics HOPEFULLY tomorrow ;)
