Clutch had been working fine when the weather got very cold (-40). I didn't let it warm up much and backed up fast and then forward and the clutch started a grinding noise. The clutch is now engaged and not enouph peddle to release. I can start it in gear and shift without using the clutch, but can't stop as not enouph peddle. With the peddle out all the way the grinding is loud, pushed in about half way the grinding noise is gone. It seems if I try to adjust it out to gain peddle to release, the grinding would get worse. Any ideas?

have you checked your throw-out bearing? I'm assuming it has one........it may be coincidence with the cold and might have popped off the fork. :dunno:

I guess the question is how do I check or look for the problem without major work?

pull the boot out of the way that the fork goes through and look inside with a flash light......
