Hey this is my first time posting on this site, I have an 85 chevy 1/2 project right now and im converting it to a manual. I have an SM465 out of an 81+ ish chevy 1 ton that had an 6.2l deisel and hydraulic clutch. as for an engine i have a 454 from a 79 suburban with automatic transmission. My question is when I go in to buy a new clutch and flywheel what year of truck am I looking for? When I went to Napa the guy at the counter told me that there are 6 different clutch combinations for these trucks, so I have no clue what i need

Tell the parts idiot you need a flywheel ,clutch & pressure plate for a 86 K30 with a 454 /SM465 & it will work for what you are doing.

No, it is the correct application , actually he can use one up to a 90 (I used one year so as not to overload the knuckle head at the CRAPA parts store he was dealing with)
The year of the "switch" to the one piece rear main for the 454 is 1991
Your current set up from the 86 will work with the 69-79 you are buying.
Scroll down to the BBC cranks it lists the years
Check it out. :D

ah maybei should have said i was using a 350

No disrespect intended, but make sure you install a pilot bearing/ bushing in the end of the crankshaft. I would also humbly suggest that you work out the details of how you are going to actuate the clutch in terms of mechanical vs hydraulic, correct throwout fork and throwout bearing.

It's a major pain in the butt to install a transmission/transfer case combo and it would be nice to do it right the first time.

thanks for all the help guys Ill be sure to do everything proplerly, this is a long term project, so ill be sure to take my time on every step of the process
