Does anyone know where I can get the rubber cup that goes in the clutch reservoir cap? I can find the reservoir or the cap, but neither come with the rubber cup.

I went to Carquest, and they didn't have them and couldn't find them in the book either. I checked Auto Zone and o'reilly's websites and didn't see them. LMC doesn't have them either. Maybe if I go in to Auto Zone they can look it up.??

Hopefully. I just did a search on Dorman's web site and didn't see it though. That's the catalog they looked in at Carquest as well.

Well, absolutely no one sells or even makes this part anymore! Not even GM. Finding one in a junkyard around here will be next to impossible as with finding anything for these vehicles! Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix a tear in the bottom of the seal or something I could use in place of the actual part? I wrapped the thing in Saran wrap to get it home, but I really don't think it'll last!

Sorry, but something doesn't seem right here. You are saying you cannot find the gasket at all, not even with a new/rebuilt clutch master cylinder? How about posting a pic and a year model?

I know. It doesn't seem right to me either. According to everyone I've talked too and the pics I've seen, a new master cylinder for my model (1989 GMC JIMMY V1500) doesn't come with the reservoir. Sorry I can't post a pic of the part. I'm a truck driver and out of town right now. The small round reservoir is mounted next to the brake master cylinder and has a hose running from the reservoir down to the clutch master cylinder. I can find the master cylinder almost anywhere, but none of the reservoir parts. LMC has the cap and the reservoir sold separately, so I called to ask which part the gasket came with and they said neither and they couldn't get the gasket. This is really stupid, I know, but I can't believe as many people as I've talked to about this, none of them know what I need. The guy at the Chevy dealer even described the part perfectly to me over the phone and said GM discontinued it. :dunno:

Is it leaking from the pressure hole (pin hole) in the cap?

I'm not losing any fluid. The rubber diaphragm is split open on the bottom and I assume it's sucking air. I'm not really sure how the hydraulic clutch system in general works, but my clutch started engaging as soon as you let the pedal off the floor and it was almost impossible to get it to go in gear. Iwrapped the diaphragm in Saran wrap and the clutch worked almost normally on the way home. When I first took the cap off after it started acting up, the diaphragm was almost full of fluid.

I understand now. Mine is folded back like this-

Someone will correct me if im wrong but I believe that cup is only there to keep air from entering your system if fluid gets to low. "I" am not worried about fluid dropping and have no problems with my clutch. If you want to keep yours the way it is perhaps you can clean the diaphragm and use some silicone to fix it. There are probably other applications that use that same reservoir, maybe finding one of those at your pick n pull or dealership would be easy?
*and that diaphragm is keeping the fluid from entering your system when its full. Fold it and it cant "catch it"

Thanks! Tried the cross reference with the dealer and came up with nothing. The owners manual says the fluid should touch the bottom of the diaphragm. If i fold it up like that, is that still the case?

No it will not touch the bottom. The dealer wants it to touch the bottom to prevent air from entering if your fluid gets to low. I am personally not worried about the level getting to low, my clutch works perfect. This is just what I did. Again, pull a part will have something you can use even if it means changing reservoirs. Try folding it up, bleed your clutch and see what happens :D

I'm definitely going to try it. I just didn't want to under fill or overfill the fluid.

Isn't that similar to the one used in the cap on the brake master cylinder?

Edit: I'm thinking of the cap on my f*rd :doah:
