I have a buddy thats is goin to college in columbia, Mo. his 96 cobra has an oil leak and he is pretty sure its the rear seal on it.

I'm not a ford guy so how much of a pain is it to swap out the rear seal on that cobra? its a pretty bad oil leak he says and needs to be fixed as soon as its warm enough.

or could it be something else that is common to leak on these cars? something close to that area

My buddy that runs Broncos says fords are famous for having pain in the a** oil pan gaskets that always leak. Don't know if its true or not. Or, if its the same for the newer cars... But it might be something to look at.

It is prolly the rear crank seal. I have never had problems with a pan gasket. How hard it is to change depends on which engine it has. If it is a 302 it isn't to bad, but you either have to pull the engine or drop tthe trans.

I don't know anything about the newer mod engines.

If it is a 302, Tell him to make sure the pvc valve is still plugged into its hole. It is on the back of the intake. They will sometimes come out & leak oil like a rear seal.

I had a '98 Cobra that I had to pull the pan on to drill for a supercharger oil drain and it was a pain in the A**. I ended up pulling off the suspension and k-member. If I remember right, it had a double sump pan which had to come basically straight down.
