The truck is killing me this year. Just struggled with replacing a stubborn oxygen sensor. Now, as I thought I was going to get a valid inspection sticker, the truck died. I returned and noticed the "check engine" light. The code is 12. Is there any condition that makes this code activate other that a Crank Position sensor? I never did one before but may be in the near future, like today. Thanks all!

If you’re working on a typical square body they are not equipped with crank sensors.

Yep, what year, type of fuel injection, engine and trans any mods? Not enough info in your post to help.

12 is code you get when engine is not running. No distributor reference.
Normal
If you get that code with the engine running then it's an issue. Most likely the distributor ignition controll module, but not always.
Check for spark if engine won't run. Inspect all the wiring connectors.
Does your fuse block have power to all the fuses?
I am wondering if the new o2 bung welding might have damaged power feeds on lower passenger side of engine.

This truck is stock with the 5.7L TBI engine, L05, and 4L80E tranny. This truck is rust free. I noticed during several previous repairs that somebody had this truck apart for a restoration. For example the Driver's and passenger front seats are reversed. The knob for reclining the front seats is incorrectly on the console side of the seats. The truck will start and run, but rough. I mentioned that it died on me this morning. Nvrenuf is correct this truck has no crank sensor. Part of the recent headaches included repeated sudden deaths resulting in needless distributor replacement, several Ignition Control Module replacements and ECM-B fuses. The problem was worn insulation and missing tubing that resulted in the ECM-B circuit grounding out on the engine and causing the ICM to blow. Much of the wire tubing is now long gone. My thought is that the wiring harness may be the problem. Your thoughts are appreciated. Thanks.

Yes the wiring insulation gets brittle, cracks and flakes off. Especially at the throttle body where it goes through the air horn to the injectors.
