code 24......no vss signal

hey does anybody know how long it takes for this code to set in a '88 TBI system?

i sort of think it should have set a DTC, but it didn't. the speedometer cable was broken inside its housing, and the VSS is driven by the cable.

the truck has some stumbling issues.

i'm wondering if there is a problem with the park/neutral circuit. i think it might be messed up inside the ECM, because the wiring and switch all checks out.

i kind of think that the ECM is always stuck with the p/n circuit in parked mode.

any thoughts?

If the speedo cable is broken then you should pull a VSS code right away.

X2, mine would set within a minute of driving without the vss hooked up.
