So I had this stumble in the truck just off iddle, I did some trouble shooting and the egr was weak and did not hold a vaccum. I did some research and purchased the AC delco unit vs. a standard one fits all from our local auto parts store. So once replaced with the new EGR valve the stuble when away and the truck is running good. Drove it for a while today and the code 32 returned.

Where do I go from here?

thanks

anyone...

After doing some reading on other boards, I have to wonder if I will be able to cure this code due to having headers with true duals 2 1/2" free flowing exhaust?

you mention a EGR ground wire.... my EGR had no wires going to it but I assume there must be a ground wire that ties into the solenoid? Where does the ground wire go?

The only way I checked the part number was by looking it up. I can share that number of the AC delco box when i get home...

It was the wire for the o2 sensor. Probably not going to be your problem. But, the solenoid could be bad.

Unplug the electrical plug on it and see if it has vacuum at the erg valve.

Ok, should it or should it not have vaccum when the truck is running at idle and the electrical connector is unplugged and I unplug the vaccum line at the EGR valve?

If it does or does not have vaccum whats this telling me?

thanks

Remember, it may not just be the physical valve on the intake.

The egr solenoid also goes bad. I'd make sure you have a new valve, new solenoid, and good vac lines on there before going any further.

I had a good valve and solenoid, but hte gasket on the valve was blown out.

This is an issue with the EGR vavles. First you have to verify the correct EGR valve, they look identical but are different. The problem with setting a code with dual or changed free flowing exhaust is when the ECM runs the test? It does not pass because of guidelines it needs to fall into to pass.

There are some Chip Tuners that will just turn off the light or even turn off the EGR system, both are bad choices. I worked on this for quite awhile because no one had put any time into how to change parameters of what an EGR does as they usually just remove it. But I found the EGR error 32 test and can change the passing parameters which in this case is a difference of MAP kpa when the test is run. With free flowing exhaust there is not enough change in MAP kpa for test to pass.

Before you get involved in a chip change make sure the EGR valve you installed is correct. We have found the same EGR valve in two different part number boxs. I'm leaning toward an issue like this because you have not mentioned the error 32 coming up until the valve actually failed. Did it ever work with the new exhaust?

If I remember right, With the electrical plug to the solenoid unplugged, the egr should not have vacuum. If it does the valve is bad. But if it doesn't have vacuum that does not mean the solenoid is good. It may not be opening when it is supposed to. I battled code 32 for awhile. I finally checked to see what model ECM I had and went to the junk yard and started checking ECM models and what egr they had. After I found several ECM s paired with the same egr, I ordered that egr. While I was there I picked up a spare solenoid.

I am not sure if it ever worked as I am a new owner to this truck and I am working through all the bugs or items neglected by the last owner, only two bugs left (whohoo) (egr and cruse) Any way I am pretty sure I have the correct egr, I did the research and did purchase an ac delco unit. The pin hole in the vaccum line connection of the egr was certainly noticable, much small on the ac delco unit vs. the brand x. The ac delco part number is 214-5073. I have not verified that the solenoid is working correctly yet. Still looking into the testing procedures etc.

I just replaced my EGR valve and the small stumble is gone. So far no SES light. But I'm positive the light will come on because of the dual exhaust that I have.

The new EGR valve is an AC Delco #214-5073 and says "Made in USA" on the valve. The old EGR that I just tossed, also came in an AC Delco box with the same part #214-5073 and said "Made in China" on the valve. Go figure.:dunno:

When I installed the new EGR valve, I forgot to hook up the solenoid and never got any codes. I seen my screw up when I was taking a test drive (I just installed MSD cap, rotor, coil and wires....and NGK plugs), and the blazer started stumbling and finally died. One of the coil plugs was missing the side clip to hold it in place and worked itself loose. Plugged it back in and started right up. Took it home and spliced in a newer plug. So far no SES light.

How did you come up with this part # cause it shows does not fit my 87 K5 350 Tbi/700R4? Actually my truck was a 305 factory but engine was replaced a while back with GM crate 350.

This is because AC/Delco was sold and is no longer a trusted GM parts source. It's just another part and getting cheaper as time goes by.

Delphi is now the only true trusted GM factory parts source.
