So these are the two codes I have. Was searching around on thirdgen.org and found some info. Was slightly confused by this diagram:

What exactly do I need to test for here? Any ideas on the code 45: O2 reads rich?

Sorry, can't see that picture here, nor can I get to the PDF versions of the TBI troubleshooting pages from the GM manual, which is what the links in the sticky post are/were (looks like the whole site is gone).

Looks to me like no EST if you trigger the code. I would expect that it would run rich if so, but unsure. The O2 isn't triggering the code 42, so it would stand to reason that the O2 code is a result of the 42.

yea thats weird i couldnt see it earlier and now its back? i may just pull the dist and rebuild the whole thing.

Prolly the magnetic pick up coil or the module. Bad pick up coil will set a 42. Once a 42 is set the timing is ran off the EST on a pre set curve which may cause the rich 45 code.
Other things to look for:
Check the be sure the timing bypass wire is connected and not grounding anywhere. check connections at the distributor to ECM.

which module the ignition module or EST? I think I am going to go ahead and replace the pickup coil since it is cheap to do.

EST= Ignition module
ESC = Electronic spark control. That is the square module next to the TB that the knock sensor hooks up to. It has nothing to do with a code 42.

Might as well replace both the Ignition (EST) module and pick up coil while you are in there.
If you have a multi meeter You can check resistance thru the 2 wires that come off the PU coil. Should be 500- 1500 ohms. If out of specs the coil is bad.

cool thanks!

I have a F.C. 42 and extreme rich running all my other emissions are within spec, but H.C.s are around 600PPM. I know my Air Injection non return valves are leaking, thats next along with the module in the dizzy)
My 02 is running really lazy. I so far to try and smog this truck have installed a new

EGR (sticking)
T-Stat (had 6 holes drilled in it by the previous owner)
Cap/rotor were destroyed
plugs (gapped at 50)
Wires (falling apart)

I will let you know what happens with my findings.
