Anyone know what can cause code 51 besides bad checksum? I'm trying a new bin on my TBI and after about 1 second it throws the EPROM error code, though it seems to run reasonably well. It doesn't do the super fast blink like when the chip is missing or totally hosed.

Hey Mastiff, I'm having the exact same problem. Do you have a scanning program? Have you been inside the ECM or swapping chips?

Yeah, I'm using winALDL to get data out on my laptop. I'm swapping chips. The chip I've been using (which I also programmed) doesn't throw codes, but my most recent does. I want to figure out why.

Alright, well mine just started throwing 51. But I've been having other problems since start up. What ECM are you running? Probably a 7747 right? Umm what are your knock counts? Mine start around 0 and count up to 250 then start over. I think they're related. Does your SES light still work? Mine quit as soon as I saw the code 51 in TunerProRT.

I'm using 7747. My knock counts are crazy, but I have no sensor hooked up at all so I think that's expected. I'm pretty sure I disabled the knock impact on the timing. If you are getting huge knock counts like that and you want to have knock working, I'd suspect your knock computer/filter box thing. My SES works.

My code 51 problem was my misunderstanding. I forgot that the codes persist even after you aren't getting them anymore. I must have had a bad chip once, but the light was going on because of the knock sensor. When I looked in winaldl I saw the PROM code. Power cycling the truck removed the code 51...
