Since this is the diesel section, are you referring to C code vs/ J code engines? Those codes are referring to a digit in the VIN # that specifies the emissions package installed on the motor. The C code engine has an EGR system and lower power output than the non-emission J code.

Ahh that makes sense! I just a duh moment.!! :haha:If it's a cucv all engines will be J code heavy duty emissions, even the blazers!
 
Sorry, guess I should have stated a vehicle. 84 M1009

That will be a J code (non-emissions) 148HP engine. C code (emissions) engines have EGR and make 130HP. J code engines made 148HP in the early years, and increased to 155HP, and finally to 165HP. That is for civvy vehicles though. Military engines may have stayed at 148HP up until the introduction of the 6.5...
