Does anyone just make the tube for the cold air intake and sell it seperately?

just to get rid of the stock tubing would clean things up and im sure help performance

vehicle:

2005 Chevy Silverado 1500 with 5.3L

You're trying to keep the stock air box and MAF, I assume. Are you trying to get rid of the stock rubber tube or the plastic plenum with giant silencers on it?

Something like this?

The stock stuff doesn't look too restrictive to me, but all of the aftermarket intake manufactures claim like +100hp and +10MPG from their tube and filter. Anybody see any real improvment on a 5.3L?

More importantly the intake tube on mine has a piece that drops down by the passenger side valve cover and serp belt assembly.

with free flowing exhaust, free flowing intake, cooler thermostat, upgraded ignition, it makes putting a programmer on it more worth it, you get more power out of the setup as a whole..right now im getting great performance (i have everything except the tube--including k&n filter)

..yes id like to keep my factory MAF and air box (though the filter indicator doesnt work for sh*t)

what the aftermarket doesnt tell you is that your power goes up, but so does the range it comes in on the RPM range

Be careful with that K&N filter, I have one in the Avalanche, and during a recent tear down due to a bad camshaft, I noticed all kinds of oily tar type stuff in the intake runners and inside the intake plenum as well. Turns out it's the oil product from the filter being applied too liberally :doah:

It's pulling the oil off the filter and into the intake system.

Check Ebay. There's a couple companies on there that sell cold air intakes cheap and some sell their components cheap.
