What is the difference between the cold climate package super heater and the regular heater on the late 70's chevy?

I assume thats the same as the heavy duty heater, no AC? We are talking non-Suburban, since those could have rear heat/AC.

As far as I've been able to tell, essentially the difference is the fan motor itself. They used the AC fan motor with the shorter squirrel cage of the non-AC setups. The AC motor has a vent hole in it, and the HD heater setup has a like fitting on the heater housing, so that the fan motor will be cooled.

There are other differences, but I'm not sure which is which..some interior portions of the heater box have a "bypass" setting controlled by the cables, some of the heater heads have varying numbers of cables to control the blend doors, and I *think* you get one more fan speed setting on the switch. 4 fan speeds vs. 3?

Is that what you were asking?

Yes, The heavy duty heater with no A/C. Thanks for the help. I need to replace the motor in the unit. I didn't realize it used a different motor.

Very simple to ID if you have the right one, that vent hole is a dead giveaway.

I never did bother checking if the AC motor is the same as the HD heater blower motor, but I don't see why it wouldn't be, *unless* the vent location is different. They all run 12V when on high, but obviously the AC/HD motors are wound differently, to turn faster.
