Cold temps and the 6.2L

I would take a pic of my directions, but my truck isn't back yet :doah: Hopefully by the end of the week.

It should start better than that. My street/strip car with no choke and mistuned carb starts better at 40F. I could see it starting like that at -40F though.

I've never had a problem starting a gas motor without a choke, just pump it. You can't do that to a diesel without glow plugs though.

Well, if you look at his sig, he claims to have 460,000 miles on his truck. So, the question is, when was the last time the injectors and IP were rebuilt? They have a MTBO of about 100k-150k miles. Odds are, they are worn out. Also, what is the compression like? Weak cylinders aren't going to fire right off the bat. The fact is, 460k is a LOT of miles. It's not unreasonable to expect that she is gonna be a bit cranky in the morning.

Might want to replace the harmonic damper too, if it hasn't been replaced in th elast 100k miles. If it goes south you risk a broke crank... and I hate it when my crank is broken :doah:

The Frame has 460k on it. The motor and tranny have inbetween 100 and 200k.

How hard is it to replace the harmonic damper?

Does your HPCA and fast idle work? My '83 would start a little rough like yours when cold and I'd have to let it smooth out. I hooked up a manual switch to my HPCA and fast idle solenoid because my temp switch is AWOL. Now I turn the key, touch the throttle and it literally jumps to life, and runs smooth instantly. Quite a remarkable difference...

Not sure if it's working or not... ;)
