ok so i drove my blazer all the way down through wa, or, and down to san luis obispo, ca without incident.

tongiht i got bored so i decided to take a drive

about 3 miles from my appt complex i notice a jarring vibration and noise i usually associate w/ flats, so i get out and check, nothing

i continue and the JARRING vibration gets worse, so i decide to turn around and park this thing so i can deal w/ it on my own time.

there was no chirping that i associate usually with a bad ujoint, and my driveline now has TONS of play in it. it has always had more than it should but i didnt really want to re-set up my gears.

it clunks when the driveline seems to not be under constant pressure, either from the brakes, or the engine end of the drivetrain.

it seems to me i fried my r&p or ???

what do you guys think?

is there anyone local who could help me out. i know NOONE in town and have no shop to work in.

thanks, rick wright

did you check your u joints? i would think that if there is play (im assuming that you mean when in park) and you twist the drive shaft back and forth it moves. that would seem to me a bad u joint. it should be solid no twisting at all. you could also jack the rear end up on jack stands and spin the wheels and see where the noise is coming from. the other thing you could do is pull the cover to your rear. all that cost you is some ultra black and some gear oil. pending nothings wrong.

set your e brake, chock the wheels, and put er in N. then shake your driveline around some, find out where its coming from. if your pinion nut is loose there will be up and down and around play at the pinion, at the TC there may be excessive wear at output. or possibly a ujoint needle bearing is toast. i am a college student going through the same crap as you are, but with a way less badass truck. i think i might need a new TC
