So, if I want it, and will go pic it up in Colorado, I can have my late grandpa's old S10 blazer. Its and 87 and has only 80K on it. Bummer is, it has the supper lame 2.8l in it. Auto trans. Its having a hot start problem, but otherwise is super clean, rust free and just about free...

First thought was, boom, first rig for my boy. He's 13. Put a stereo in it, tune it up. Done

But come on now, non of us here can leave well enough alone :haha:

My main gripes...ungodly slow. Not a manual. Already teaching my boy on the sm465 in the burb.

Lets through out some reasonable, economical fun things to do. No dmax/cummins stuff. But it'd be fun to play with it and maybe make it a wheeler before handing it over...

Sky SFA...

4.8 LS...

NV3500...

Just some of my thoughts.

I know that small block swaps are easy and well-documented. V8 and SFA gets into 'major project' territory pretty quick. For me, it would make it less desirable as a DD, but for a teenage boy, it'd probably be awesome.

Personally, I'd go 2WD, airbag it and big nasty cammy smallblock. I know that goes against the grain of the forum, but hey...whatever.

Is it the Bravada that used an AWD t-case? I say swap that in along with a turbo'd LS and have a street sleeper Typhoon clone.

How much do you figure it would cost to get it here? I would be inclined to either pass on it, or get it and sell it. But that's just cause its not my style. I really want a 4 door Cherokee like Jamin 's yellow one. You can pick up earlier ones for omega cheap. Like $1000 for something ddable. Then, you already have a solid axle. And I just can't wrap my head around why someone would want 2 doors instead of 4!on the trail it might be better maybe? And the jeep already would have a I6! Which you wouldn't really need to swap. But maybe rebuild? Rebuild the motor with the boy and it would be a golden experience!

I'm just fking buzz kill after buzz kill!

If you are kinda dead set on the s10, my suggestions would be to do the ls, whatever trans, 231 case, explorer 8.8 rear end, and a jeep d30 front with free spin hub conversion.

Proof, free is never free.

This post is mostly for fun. Maybe serious but prob way more practical than radical

The 2 dr thing isn't a big thing cause it will either be a toy or my boys car or both. I have a 4 dr tahoe and a burb.

Its also kinda cool cause it was my grandpa's. Also, I had a 83 s10 blazer right out a high school, through college and past. Beat the ever liven out of it. Kinda like the little square body :dunno:

V8 swaps do seem quite involved for these. and not necessary

You know me. I vote Cherokee every time. The engine/trans combo will go 300k miles. Parts are cheap and readily available. Swap ability info is easily found.

The only real breakable thing is the rear axle, and that's easily remedied.

Just make sure it's a good year.

What about 4.3L V-6, sm465, dana 300, and Scout or Waggy Dana 44s?
With a coilover 3 link front end. Yeah, the coil over 3-link is going kind of dream build pricing but, shouldn't be TERRIBLE, and I have a good reason for it:
lower lift height
Since the coil overs take up less space than leaves or separate could and springs, and the three link setup can be done in such a way to clear frame, engine, trans, driveshaft, etc easily, the Blazer won't have to be lifted as high as it would with a leaf sprung solid axle conversion! Do like about a 4" lift and some 33x12.50R15s.

That (to me) would have been an awesome rig to have as a 16 year old!!! Heck, I'd love to have one setup like that now!!! I've always liked the S-10 Blazers, I used to have a ZR-2 (later body) and one of my buddies that wheeled with me had a square body like that one from your grampa, it was a sweet little rig!!! IIRC my buddy's had a 3" body lift (yeah, I know, I hate body lifts too) and 33s on it.

that's my buddies, like 4 of em all wheel early to mid 90's, black Cherokees.. :haha: can't tell one from the other...

hey at least they're a good source for steering shafts... :woot:

nothing useful on the S-10.. I friggin hate the 4wd 6 cyl versions... 10lb's of poo in a 5 lb bag...

yeah, did some diggin tonight. They don't lend themselves to aftermarket well. The SAS usually looks funny on em.

Crazy its only got 80k on it tho.

If you can get it here for less than like $500 total, it's still a good first rig for the boy, but that's about it.

Red is our color on the west coast.

Look up 496truck's old S10 build... it was pretty sweet. Solid axle, 35's, and locked, I believe.

I thought the 3.8 was a 60deg with a 90deg bell?

off road buggy builders are doing this combo a lot now for tube buggy rigs . I know a guy in north Carolina and his is setup this way .

gm use to have a performance replacement motor for the 2.8 and it was bigger but still bolt in . don't know if that's still out there.
