Anyone have any experience with using a recommendation from comp's cam help?

reason I ask is I have a friend building a motor for a truck and asked me what type of cam to use. Ive got a lot more experience working on motors but when it comes to cam selection Ill admit that I really dont know that much so I suggested he try using the cam help. I actually sat down with him and filled out an email application that asks some very specific questions about the vehicle. few days later he recieves an email with a cam recommendation but is unhappy because it will not provide the sound he wants. I explained my experiences with cams and am trying to get him to see that what was suggested was a good choice.

anyways, Im just looking for anyone who has used this service and is either happy or unhappy with the results.

You can now download for free the comp cams camquest 6 cam selection software. It works great and has a lot of variables that you have to input then it will give you cam choices.

WOW that is cool... I just put my motor through it...

There were 2 great fits then 2 good fits... my cam fell down in the 4th spot as good fit.... however not much of a difference between hp and torque specs when I chose all 4....

I would love to dyno my truck .. it is telling me this...

Peak Horsepower: 349.5 @ 4500
Average Horsepower: 85.8

Peak Torque: 452.1 @ 2500
Average Torque: 140.4

if all he is concerned about is sounding cool, then by all means go big lol. they have their new thumper series cams which asound like old muscle car cams but not as aggressive.

I'm curious about those. Aren't they advertised as having good low-end torque with the rough idle? Wonder what they do for your gas mileage...

thanks for the replies. I actually had a friend a work tell me about the program you can download so I have it on my computer now and its pretty cool. mostly I just waste a lot of time now with it:doah:

Im afraid that if he goes big he will make the same mistake I did and have a cam way too big for the application and end up doing the work all over again but I think Ive got him leaning towards a milder cam that should sound good and still have decent low end.

also as far as the thumper cams I looked at them cause of the adverstisment but I think even the smallest one doesnt start building power till 1900 rpms which was too much for me.
