Be gentle......I have a C/30 flat bed which I want to turn into a tilting bed. It's done with a hydaulic pump, control valve and a couple of rams.......that part's easy. However.........to power the pump, I need a PTO. Here come's my ignorance.......is a PTO the same as a transfer case ??? I thought I needed a NP205. Maybe I'll just go electric motor.

transfer cases have a pto cover on the side where you can unbolt the cover and there is a hookup that spins even when the transfer case is in neutral (transmission in drive)..

i found out recently that even manual tranny gearboxes also (most of them) have a PTO capability.. so it doesnt have to be 4WD. hope that helps

Yep. You're right. Both my 205 and my SM 465 have PTO covers.

You either have to have a manual tranny or a transfer with a pto output to use a PTO I guess.
