Look for an NPT plug at your local hadware store, should have plenty of thread. I not, try and throw the old idiot light sensor back in with plenty of teflon tape and just leave it unhooked.

I believe it's national pipe thread.

It's somethin pipe thread anyways. Just means that the plug/fitting/whatever you're trying to put in there is tapered and threaded a certain way.

NPT = nominal pipe thread ;)
I just bought a plug from the automotive parts store. It came in a pack with a few different size plugs.

I'll look for the NPT plug today.. :bow:
what does npt stand for? :o :p:

"NPT" stands for National Pipe Thread.

A couple others you may encounter along the hardware road someday:

NC = National Coarse
NF = National Fine

went by a pipe fitting sprecialty store today (the auto parts store only had shallow plugs).... anyway, they had a fitting with the right size threads on it that was open, and they also had a plug that screwed onto the end of that... I think this thing will give me 3, maybe 4 more threads than the sender that I stripped it out with did.. I'll try to get time to plug it up this weekend...

Now about that little plug I can use near the oil filter, where exactly is that and is it the same size, or a different size (Oh, if the brass sender got messed up, I may have to find another one like it too :doah: )

I sure wish I had some daylight and time right now :eek1:

thanks again for helping me so far yall.. man I could have saved myself alot of trouble by doing it right the first time... I keep learning my lessons by trial and error.. ;)

Lighten up on yourself, buddy. We've all screwed something up one time or another.

If you don't know what you're doing, leave your truck well enough alone....
I'm such a yahoo, yall should really just ban me from this site right now..

Well, I pulled the distributor off (thought it would be ok becaues I had done it before on another motor)... Got the old oil sensor off and started screwing the new one on.. I was so happy.. I tightened it all the way down to the block and decided to SNUG it up a little with just two fingers against my wrench....

Well, I stripped the fine threads on the block and the new sensor just spins around and around.. I was a little disheartened to say the least, but said what the heck. I'll just try to finish the install and see how bad it leaks..

Well the distributor wouldn't really slide back down all the way against the block. after wrestling with it I got it back on.. then I finished putting the line on the gauge

went to crank the truck and it wasn't firing, and the starter was grinding every now and then... well, it never fired, but it backfired like a shotgun out the exhaust.. BANG

dicided I would try to crank it one more time, then it backfired a bunch of white smoke through the carb POOF

and I might have dropped a wee bit of crap down the sensor hole...

I am Mr. BEAN in the flesh (You know when he messes up the painting)..
:laugh: :laugh: :mad: :mad: :( I have NO business touching a vehicle ever again.. I hate me and you should too. :doah:
Have CK5 member near you come over and help. Have pleanty of beer and pizza there.

If there are any CK5 members near me, I will give you all the beer and pizza you want... zap me an email if you are near columbus (I live about 40 miles from there).. heck, I'll even git some steaks if someone will help me ;)

awsome idea zp3r....

I'll keep yall updated.... setting timing seems as complicated to me as trying to fly a space shuttle, but I'll reread yall's posts and get out there and try my best.., I can't make it any worse than it is now..

ya dude no joke if you need a litle more step by step exactly what to do after you try it its all good i/we can do that. I'd come over but im like 3000 miles away so unless you wanna buy me a plain ticket thats out of the options.but i'll do what i can from here to help you out cause i remember my first time trying to pull and reinstall a dist...what a mess :doah: but like you will i learned fromt he mistake and now i can tell other people how to fix it.

I have been considering some jb weld as a thread sealer since the threads are stripped... I guess I'll just try the new plug with some teflon tape, maybe the 3 extra threads will be enough to hold in the pressure :doah: we'll see tomorrow...
