Compressor sizing, advice

So, considering painting my burb. Other than sanders and a spray gun, I need a real compressor.
Rarely use other pneumatics, as cordless impacts have taken over, but my other compressor sucking is part of the reason.

Goal is to go oiled for long life and lower noise.
Size recommendations for some sanding and painting? Doesn’t have to be break free, but don’t want to lose my mind waiting either.
Tank size and motor size?

Using the newer HVLP paint guns makes it easier. They will use less air than a gravity feed gun. I painted my trucks with a belt drive oiled craftsman compressor, only 30 or 40 gallon size. Sanders use a lot more air, might want to stay with electric there.

DA + sand board + a few other items = DRINK AIR . so go big cfm and tank or plan on a lot of hurry up and wait .

Really like the idea of sticking with electric on the sander. Makes sense.
With hvlp, how small could I go to spray? Could I get by to test with a small nail gun compressor?

Even with hvlp you need some volume. Short recovery time is a convenience. You would not be able to spray a fender correctly with a 2 gallon nail gun compressor.
