Its a stick, and this only happens when im in gear, not in neutral or the clutch engaged. It makes this raspy kinda grinding sound in time with the engine. Almost like your voice cracking in the morning when you first get up. What should i lo6k for? Fluid level? Change? Worse? Thanks.

I had a similar issue that turned out to just be the clutch finally giving out, one of the clutch plate spring retainers actually wore away and the spring was rattling around. No big deal, new clutch and bearings fixed it.

Of course it wouldn't hurt to check the fluid, but that wouldn't be likely to cause the issue you are describing.

worried this thing will blow up on my 65 mile commute..

In regards to the clutch issue I just mentioned, the sound started as a raspy slight grinding sound and was that way for about a week. After that I found that it would sometimes be difficult to get in gear, especially from a stop going into 1st. After a week of that it was finally not drivable as the spring had popped out of the clutch plate:eek1:.

How many miles are on it?
Its not uncommon for the mainshaft bearings to wear and get noisey.

my girl friends 92 accord does that, push the clutch in and listen, the noise on hers slows down and stops when u do that. then starts up again when in neutral and the clutch is out. i think its the throw out bearing? not too sure though.

yeah, i thought my throw out was going cause of a squeak but the issue kinda went away. This started happening recently and it went away once but its back, you really hear it at low rpms when your starting off. Well, good thing im getting my truck back tommorow, just in case it goes. Dont have money for a mechanic to look at it yet, even if i had the knowledge i wouldnt wanna touch this thing haha

sorry, yeah its got 80k miles. Do i need to worry about it blowing up soon? and how much would a job like that cost me?

Do you hear the noise while pushing the clutch?
Or while you are moving?
Squeak?
Or is it a
Grinding?

when the clutch is pushed in, no noise, just normal engine, same for neutral, only while in gear, mostly notice it in 1st at low rpms, in tune with the engine. So you can say its when im moving, its a sort of grinding, not in the traditional sense, just very rough sounding while its in gear, push in the clutch and roll or leave it in neutral sounds fine freerolling or still, just while in gear..

Try coasting at low speed with it in 1st gear with the clutch depressed.

Let me know if you hear it then.

Well heres an update. I hear the noise in neutral now, sounds like an electric motor in tune with the engine. Goes away with clutch in only. Throwout bearing? Guy said hed do it with new plates for 500

Goes away when you depress the clutch pedal?

Sound like throwout bearing to me.

To bad your sooo far away....Im always lookin for side work.

I work in manhattan. Id even be willing to help. If you want the work pm me with how long itll take and price. Id be stranded till its done haha
