Removed the steering gear box because it's shot, and inspected the frame for the dreaded crack.....I think it's cracked. Can anyone confirm? Doesn't look like it actually separated or anything, but definitely looks like a crack to me, as I've seen pictures that show this is where/how they occur. So I'm guessing I need to get the ORD repair kit. Will also get the bolt-on brace. Any suggestion for a steering gear box? On a budget, and thought of just getting a rebuilt unit from Napa or O'Reilly.

Look and see if there is a Power steering specialist close by. We have one here on Denver, the prices and quality surprises those junk auto store rebuilds

As for the brace, I will be spending the extra few bucks for the one from ORD soon

Yeah, stating the obvious I think, but that is decently cracked. Those will need to be cleaned, stop drilled, welded and ground flush all before the weld on repair is done.

OK, good info....I'll search around here. Thanks for the tip.

Yea it's 30$ more but heck I would pay that just to see rough country go away.. damn springs and shocks are crap..

I have a good used 4wd box if you need it, pm me if interested. I'm with skunked on the ord piece being rough country, it includes rough country install instructions. I say save the pennies and buy something else for the truck from them, like the bolt on brace, always good to do the combo.

I will NOT install any of there stuff for customers .. . . when there lift kits now a days down grade thickness or nut/bolt size over stock that was it no more .

You do know that ORD just resells their frame patch kit with a markup, right? I bought mine from ORD and it came in the Rough Country box with their part# and instructions and a copy of ORD instructions that were identical except for the company logo.

So mine ripped out of the frame . I’m gonna order this piece but so I u sweat and I should weld up the cracks, then grind them down, then install this piece

Yes, ideally you stop drill the end of the cracks, groove the cracks then weld em up. Dress the welds down and install the weld on repair plates paying close attention to the stitch pattern in the instructions.
