I'm the new owner of a 1970 Blazer. I love the thing, but want to improve the brakes by upgrading to front discs. I've done a search and it seems like the simplest way to accomplish this is to find a front Dana 44 out of a later model Blazer. I know a guy that has a couple since he's converted his K5 to 3/4 ton. My question has to do with the gear ratio. I believe my 70 has 3.07 gears and the later models have 3.08's? I realize they are essentially the same size, but will that small difference matter? Thanks

I don't have much help to offer, but try posting in the garage forum. a gear ratio question isn't 1st gen specific, and that forum gets a lot more action. I'm sure someone will chime in with the answer quick enough there.

3.07 vs 3.08 is a non-issue.... Swap away!

You'll have a bigger difference than that with worn tires on one axle. Seriously.

FYI...Without pictures and details of your truck we may lose interest and fail to answer your questions.

We like pictures...A lot.

I'm pretty sure you can just use the later model brake components and spindles. You might have to use the knuckles too. Then you could just use your gears and diff.

I only have a couple of pictures right now, but plan to add more as I go. It's a 1970 Blazer that is all stock. I bought it from a kid who inherited it from his great uncle. It was in the same family since new. I plan to keep it mostly stock for now. I'm debating putting on a small 2 inch lift versus just replacing all the stock suspension components. It rides pretty ruff right now due to worn out bushings etc. I definitely want to add disc brakes and am having a friend put in a crate motor right now. Plan to eventually put in a cage and a soft top and just use it as a cruiser.

that is beautiful! I love it. with one in that good of shape, I think you are making the right call. just repair it up so it drives nice and cruise that ****!

I can't say that Gold is doing it for me but that is one straight body, Nice!:thumb: And the black top, I think there growing on me as well. It;s missing the trim on those front fenders Hmmmm Wonder what happened there. Anyways Welcome now pull up a chair and stay a while.

It definitelyhas some new sheet metal on front. It received a Maaco paint job about 10 years ago. I don't like the gold either. I eventually plan to go back to the original color which is also gold but appears to have more green in it. All the difficult to repair areas are solid so I'm happy about that.

Cool K5.

I'm taking out a D44 out of a blazer the next few weeks, it has 3.07 gears and I can ask the owner if he wants to sell it.

It has disc brakes on it now.

I appreciate the offer. I think I have a line on a couple up here in Northern Colorado. If that falls through I'll send you a pm.
