Well I just installed a set of 33's and love them but I don't like the lack of power with 3.08's and a 305. I would like to go to 3.73s or 4.10's. Which would be cheaper? Also I need to know your oppinion if you think it'd be easier to buy a parts truck or just buy the gears? If I'm just buying the gears, how do I find out how many splines I have? I have a 10b front and 12b rear. Thanks alot. /forums/images/graemlins/1zhelp.gif

Swap your axles for 3/4 ton units and you'll get 4.10 gears for the cost of the axles + brakes and gear oil and a u joint.

You'll also get a much heavier/stronger rear axle.

So my next question is; what about 8 lug 15" wheels? Where do I find those?

[/ QUOTE ] Summit.

Most tire stores can probably get them. I got mine threw Discount Tire Co. They are Unique brand 15x8".

you won't always get 4.10 gears, most likely in the 73-80 or so you will. my 3/4 ton has 3.42 and im buying a 86 k20 that has 3.73. im just saying just because its 3/4 ton doesn't mean its 4.10 gears, check it first /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

Alright guys, thanks! I am now searching for that elusive truck that someone wants to give away... /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif Yeah, right... I'll check out summit for wheels.

I second that! Be patient and look for the 4.10s. I've seen 'em go for as little as $50 and herd of them going for as much as $500 /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif

I have 33s, 305, and 3.73s. Get something lower. 4.10 or even 4.56.

What transmission? If it is a 700R4 here is what I suggest.

31" = 4.10
33" = 4.56
35" = 4.88
37+ = 5.13

I had 32's and 4.56's for awhile after my 3/4 ton axle swap and regear. I LOVED it. I now have 35's (plan on 37-38's) and I wish I had 5.13's.

I did 4.56 gears with plans of 35" tires and I didn't go low enough. I didn't know better then but I do now. Don't make my mistake. Regear for whatever tire size you plan on not what you run currently.

Ok guys, exactly what is the point of this off-top post? Let's end this right here. Political commentary and the like belong in the Lounge, not in the Garage. Let's keep this forum focused on off-road and 4x4 issues...

I have a TH350 so I don't want to go *too* low because highway RPM's have to stay semi-decent. I'm thinkin 4.10 will be alright from what I've heard.

I know they won't always have 4.10s but they seem to be more common than anything else with 3.73s a close 2nd and I have only see one set of 3/4 tons with 3.42s in my life.

I got my 3/4 ton axles from an '82 K20 for free before I even knew what CK5 was. They lasted me all the way until this spring when I swapped them out.

4.10's with 33's and a th350 should be ok, especially if you want to keep your highway rpm low. If you plan to switch to 35's later you may want to consider 4.56's, that's what I run and it does ok.

I want to eventually have more gear also , run the same gears and tire size you do , with a 305 as well ( for now ) . I am only going to 4.10's and 35's eventually , so I don't have to cruise on the highway at real high rpm's ( near 3000 rpms and extended trips don't sit well with me ) . Don't forget that tires usually measure slightly smaller than what they say on the sidewall by an inch sometimes /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif
