Ok, the '87 project truck for my daughter is slowly getting sorted out, but still has issues. Mainly, it is in need of rebuilt distributor, rebuild for the TBI, and the wiring harness in the engine compartment is a mess with cracked wires running a muck, then it will need to be re-flashed for the '79 350 in it.

Finally, being I have not had this truck on the road and considering how poor the previous owner took care of the mechanical side of things, I really am wondering about the the transmission. I know the motor is decent (because it is mine- his was seized), but will need a ring job in the next 4K miles or so. It holds great oil pressure, but compression is ok.

So, I can get a low mileage '02 5.3, with stand alone ECM, harness, pedal, mounts, radiator with lines, 4L60E (4WD) for around $2400

Then I just need pickup for tank, pump, speedo control and exhaust.

Thoughts?

sounds like average price.

i did 87 tank and sender ( first year tbi ) and used 96-97 c3500 350 vortec pump to get psi needed.

then exaust used truck manifolds and reworked the down pipes real easy to fit in the frame rails. 10 min job .

stock wiring harnness easy to rework / or aftermarket plug/play .

speedo just swap to 90-90 electric dash some here have done it.

02 might still be cable throttle. if not get pedel NON adjustable style and the small wiring harnness and pedel brain box. and fyi 4 wire hook up on electric pedel to get cruise control.

read up in the engine swap section and or my 2wd project in my sig line links.

I was wrong, the motor is a '03. You used the sender also from a '87?

tank needs baffle . if 87-up should be in there from tbi injection.

sender for tbi injection minus tbi pump.

pump i listed same size / and plug end just more output for psi needed for ls motor. direct swap on to tbi sender.

all this keeps it clean and simple. and intank pump is best over outside tank pump for reg stuff. unless racing and big hp #'s .

my 85 carb truck swaped to 5.3 with swaped in 87 first year truck tank with tbi parts and vortec spec pump . cant even tell its mix match . :D

All this in your thread? Overall, how would you rate the LS in your truck?

easy swap in .

and havent finished it yet but should be super.

others have finished there swaps here and love them.

I just finished a 5.3 swap in a CJ7. I am running an open element filter on it. You may could run one from a 99-up truck in yours, you would need to move the battery to the passenger side. I didn't have room.

Is this the right pump?

You will be much happier with it if you do the swap. It not that hard to accomplish.
You can read my build to get some info on how I did most of it.
Your fuel tank should work just upgrade the pump. You my have to change some fuel lines up if the motor has a returnless fuel rail.

I was just on that site. I must admit, I had a tough time finding anything on K5. Who do I contact and roughly how much?
thanks
Joe

There site does kind of suck.
Just call and talk to them I don't remember who I talked to. They will send you to the exhaust guys. They like $650.00 with the V clamps

Do they dump on a diagonal or horizontal with the ground?

Ok, so walked into a issue today. I have a low mount 4 bolt adapter for the NP 208 to the 700R4. Isn't the 4L60E a 6 bolt adapter?

93 to 97 4l60e's are 4 bolt and use a 4 bolt adapter. The 98 and up 4l60e's use the newer 6 bolt adapter.
