console options

I just installed in bucket seats in my pickup and now I need/want a console. I certainly like the Tuffy consoles (all except for the price). I know, I know, you get what you pay for. But I found this on Walmart's website. I'd paint it with Krylon Fusion plastic paint to match my interior, so picture it in hammered black everywhere it is white (has anyone used this paint? does it work as well as it claims?).

What do y'all think? Get one, or start saving for a Tuffy? A 12V cooler could be awfully handy (plus it's only $50), but Tuffy consoles sure are sexy.

What are you wanting out of the console. I actually really like the console I have from a '90 K5. It has plenty of storage space, it locks, and the square holes actually work really well for holding most cups.

I wouldn't mount that cooler in my truck if you paid me. But would be sweet to have in teh back...

What are you wanting out of the console?

Well, more or less just to do something functional with the void that now exists in the center of my truck. Let me think about this out loud:

• Lockable isn't really all that big of a deal as it's a pickup and I still leave my doors on.
• I always carry a cooler when wheeling, so this would be handy for that, but I wonder how functional it'll be when I'm not using the cooler part. I guess I could always throw crap in there anyway. I do hate dealing with melting ice and crawling into the bed everytime I want a drink.
• I like the fact that the Tuffy is metal/strong. I really don't know how sturdy this is. (internet only) Plastic makes me nervous.
• I could buy 5 of these for the price of one Tuffy.
• The Tuffy sure is sexy
• I could build one, but I really don't want to mess with it
• I could mount a CB in the Tuffy. I couldn't in the cooler.
• There's nothing on the Tuffy to break, whereas if the cooler goes on this thing it would be trash.

Hmm, after all that, I still don't know what the heck I want . Maybe I'll make up my mind eventually.

I like both ideas, and both would fit my needs in different ways. I can always carry a cooler in the bed. Of course, I can mount a CB somewhere else in the cab and lock my doors too. I'm just fishing for opinions on what you all would prefer.

do a stock on, mount a cb on the front, and see how you like it. If you want somethig more secure, spring for the tuffy, if not, you're set

I ended up ordering a 10" Tuffy stereo security console. I bought it from 4wheelersupply.com for $219.95 shipped. Thought I should brag on them. I tried to order it yesterday, but they were already closed. When I went online today, their sale had ended and the price had gone up to $284.95 (about what most other places had it for). The guy on the other end of the phone was super nice and gave me the sale price anyway. Anytime I get good customer service I just feel like I should share.
