Hey guys, I'm looking at getting a 91 Blazer. It has a 6" Rough Country Lift with 36" Super Swampers. Needless to say, this is too big for what I want it for. How much work and money to get it to setting on a 2" or so lift and maybe 33's. Any input would be very appreciated.
I plan on leaving tomorrow after work to go get it. It is 588 Miles away!

Thanks,

Rick

First thing I would do is to read this thread...

http://coloradok5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=276543 <-Tons of good info there.

I would look for the rust. I guarentee it's there, you just have to find it. Rocker Panels and Floor Boards are where i would start. Pull the carpet back and look around. If the seller has an issue with that he might be trying to hide something.

Check the axles? 10-Bolt or upgraded? That much lift and size tires on a 10-bolt would have been tough on the parts.

You can run stock and 33's but you might have some rubbing. I did a small trim to the fenders and no more rubing with stock height, so a 2" lift would be perfect.

Thanks for the info. I will check the link and do some more reading.
Here is the description of the ad:

I would definitely read the Buyer's Guide link I posted above tonight.

Don't be afraid to walk away from the truck if you feel something just ain't right. 500+ miles is a long way to go to walk away, and I imagine you might be tempted to just buy it since you drove all that way.

Any pictures available?

I like it! That blue is sharp and I don't really see much in the way of rust. The lift does look fairly new with the new u-bolts so that's a good sign it wasn't used and abused too long. Interior seats look nice as well but the driver's seatbelt does not look factory (just the receiver part next to center console).

I bought my truck from the same area so look for rust. If he rhino lined the interior, he might be covering some rust. Look real hard underneath near the seats, tailgate areas and also the bottom lip near the tailgate by gas tank.

As long as it's solid, you have a good start. The lift could be re-sold to make some money back and also those tires! You may be able to salvage the rims but you could also go back to the factory rally wheels and 33's. That will look sharp! Axles look to be stock 1/2 tons.

Any Pic's?

I think I need at least 5 posts to get to add that kind of stuff and this is now #5. So I will see If I can post a link now.

Since you posted the craigslist ad, I'll post the pic. Just wanted to not step on your toes if you wanted to keep it more "secret" :thumb:

The paint looks nice, optional power mirrors and the underside doesn't look bad at all. My truck hung out in Kent and Renton for many years......

Butte??

I flew into Seattle, picked up the truck and headed to CDA Idaho my first leg and then Colorado the next day. Good luck!

Dang mine used to look nice like that.

It would probably cost a 1000 or more to get all new parts to replace the lift with a two inch and also need a stock steering arm and or pitman arm depending on what he used. Looks real good as it sits though. You could get all the stuff from a junkyard and run all stock suspension and steering with a zero rate on front and back and should fit 33s fine. If he changed the driveshafts you may have to mod those to fit as well if they were lengthened. It has the stock axels under it so check the ball joints and things for wear with those big tires. It says he only put a thousand miles on after lift so at least it wasn't used a lot afterward or wheeled too much. The body looks strait but Berliner can hide a lot. Look underneith for rust. It hides in the corners and crevasses. If it has fresh paint underneith too its probly hiding some rust. At least you can get some money back on the parts you don't need with the lift and tires to help you
Get the parts you want.

East Helena, Jeff.

I checked for flights, but the price of ticket and everything was much more than driving.

Thanks for all the good info and help fella's!

Yea, flights are expensive. I just happened to be on a business trip and paid $100 to fly into Seattle vs. Colorado. That helped A LOT!

Bring some extra cash & tools, and hit a few yards in Auburn or hit the yard in Spokane. I would think there will be more options there vs. Helena.

Right off the bat, if you could find the rear factory interior panels, that would help clean it up some. For some reason, mine was also rhino lined and the rear panels missing too. I guess it's a Seattle thing! :dunno:

Also, carpet is pretty easy. Stockinteriors.com has a full kit and looks nice. Most supplies all source from ACC.

Thanks Jeff, good info! I'll post back on here if I do or don't get it. I've already walked away from 3 Blazers in the last Month. One all the way up in Havre. That was 8 hours I won't get back, but I'm not stuck with a P.O.S. either!

Thanks again guys.

Ooh, don't envy that trip back, but at least you're more western MT. I've driven that I-90 stretch a few times. At least you're not crossing over in the winter.

Good looking rig, surprised you haven't found a ton more nearby for the price/condition?

I don't suppose those baby's came with cruise control?

I feel sorry for the old lady driving our 03 Trailblazer. She "gets to" hang back with me rumbling down the road.

50/50, you'll have it or you won't, but yeah, it was an option. I think 3/4 of my K5s HAD cruise, I only think 1 still worked after all these years. My current 82 has it, but it doesn't work. Though I think it's a vacuum problem.

Hopefully yours will, sure would make a nicer drive home.

Since its got the power mirrors you can bet its loaded with everything including cruise (mine was). Like said though, the trick will be if it still works.

I agree, you probably have it. I'd be surprised if it did NOT have it....
