Hello,

I know there is a resource post on this conversion but not much discussion found.

I'm going to be putting a softtopper on my 87 K5 Blazer. If I want to just go full convertible softtop do I need a donor truck? The softtopper comes with railings that go from the front windshield to behind the driver seat to support the softtop.

Is there a size/shape difference of the windshield from the '75 full convertible years to the '87?

Thanks!

Welcome!

Try searching the Garage forum for "convertible conversion" and such, there are quite a few threads with good info and pics. Here's a start - https://ck5.com/forums/threads/full-top-conversion-tech.320096/

As for the windshields, they are physically the same from 73-87(91). The only difference is a built in radio antenna or not.

A donor truck is always nice because you can get EVERYTHING but when I did mine I just bought a windshield frame from another member and went from there. At this point, I'm not running doors so that related hardware wasn't important to me but can be hard or expensive to find. This is where the donor is a bonus.

So I also want to order a soft-topper for my 85 full convertible. I contacted soft-topper and asked if it would fit, they said yes but I need to know what year the windshield is. I then asked if there was a significant difference in the years (when you go to order is does have you choose a specific year...) they said they don't have any information on windshields. Best I found was the bottom corner had fuyao dw848 and when I googled it there was a thread for a 73 c20?

Does anyone have info on a) figuring out what year a windshield is or b) does it really matter for the soft-topper.

I believe all 73-75 Blazers are the same with respect to the soft top and fitment. Do you have a hard top that fits?

Softopper's web site doesn't assign a part number when you add one to their shopping cart but the description generically says "73-75".

LMC's online catalog shows the same windshield and windshield weatherstrip fitting 73-91 square body trucks. They also show the same part number for full top weatherstrips as fitting all 73-75 Blazers.

I would suggest calling Softopper again and asking if they have different part number tops for any of the 73-75 Blazers, I'd bet the same part number its all 3 years. They are probably answering carefully with a little CYA in there since your truck has been converted. I would think the only hold up would be the conversion itself (meaning, if the conversion was never intended to have a top).

I do have a hard top that fits- currently for sale :) - but I bought it already converted so not sure what year the donor was..
I too assumed that they were doing CYA - based on the way they phrased their answer. But yes that's a great suggestion about the part number! Thanks I will give them a call!

Ok cool, since you have a hard top that fits I would think anything for a 73-75 will work perfectly.

FYI- I think I picked the 74 year when ordering... installed it last night! Took a while- either the instructions weren’t good or it was the operator lol- but it fits great.
