I know that York compressors can be re-purposed as air compressors, but can any A/C pump be used? Like for instance, I wonder if I could convert the AC on my '93 6.5 for compressor duty?
These guys used their stock ac compressors, but now they need inline oilers. I guess York compressors have an oil resevoir so they don't need that and are ideal.
The delco a6 that came in our trucks in the 70s works just like a York (its actually 20% more displacement too). The newer ones will work too, you just have to be more thorough with lubrication and know that they wont last forever. I would take it apart and look carefully at the oiling system. I have converted tons of the Jeep compressors, and we just plug the oil port and fill them with a mix of 30wt and disc brake bearing grease.
