I have a bone stock 1989 Blaze with auto hubs. I was wondering what I need to do to make them manuel, because I just dont trust the fact that they are engaged or disengaged, plus this is the first 4X that I have owned that is auto. Can I just get a set of warn hubs and swap them out? I checked 4wheelparts website, and they didnt list any for my Blaze... I am assuming because the originals are auto.

Also, if I can swap them out, and someone has a good used set they would like to sell, I would be interested.

Thanks...

I have been able to pull the autos out and put lock out right in. You should be able to get hubs at any auto parts store.

Should be identical to my '90. Just remove the autos and install a set of manuals (I used Warn premiums).

Are you sure you weren't trying to look up parts for an S-10 Blazer (i.e. no hubs)?

It's pretty straight foward. The set of Warn hubs have the directions in there too. Just make sure you have some snap ring pliers and follow the directions, you'll be removing all of the stock retaining rings on the shaft. The removal of the auto lockers can be tricky, well for me, took me forever to figure out how to remove the retaining ring... then I was ooooooh I'm a retard. Just a hint, the second retaining ring for the auto lockers is removed by removing a small metal cover on the outside of the hub when you remove the actual cover with the small cap screws, it's the two little prongs that you squeeze. Slides right out.

yep i did the same on my 89.. and i suggest doing it before the autos start going out.. on mine i had one side hang up and its a sound and feeling in the truck that startles the hell out of you!!

I remember that when I did mine, I couldn't figure out how to remove the big retaining ring that goes around the hub body to save my life. Finally I figured out that I needed to do the opposite of whatever I was doing (like squeezing the two prongs toghether instead of apart or vice versa). Don't worry though, the Warns use a ring that doesn't have those prongs. They can be tricky to remove too sometimes, but after you get them out, the whole hub assembly takes less than a munute to remove. Way better than the complicated auto hubs. You should get a spare set to keep in your rig along with some snap ring pliers, just in case you break one on the trail.
