Converting the driver seat to unlock forward like a passenger seat?

I checked last night, my driver side is not a flip up but my buddy's blazer is. WTF?

I assume you're talking about the flip and slide late 80's style and not the flip up early 80's type. I think it's possible, but haven't looked into it. The passenger side has a "double track" with one sliding mechanism on top of the other. One is a regular seat position adjustment and the other is to slide the whole seat forward. I'm pretty sure those tracks can mount on the driver side seat base. Then some fab may be required to graft the "unlock" cable from a PS mechanism to a driver side one.

Try it out and post pictures?

I don't know how much you would gain, though. With the drivers seat all the way forward, the seat back doesn't even flip very far before it's against the steering wheel. Maybe measure it out before diving in.

I have to ask what you mean. When you flip the driver's seat forward, it hits a release that makes the seat slide all the way forward? We're not talking about reaching under the seat for the position adjustment lever, right?

That is correct. I don't remember what year GM started using that style but my 89 had it for sure factory.

I wonder if it was an option. I have two sets of 1990 seats and only the passenger seat does flip and slide on both. I looked at the brackets the other day and it looked like the parts could be swapped around to make that work, but I'm actually using the 1985 base on the drivers seat, so I would be drilling holes in the floor to get it working.

Just to clarify mine rocks forward ie pivots on passenger. Driver just doesn't move at all. I want to convert to it pivot forward as well. I know i'll need ot cut the floor pan for the recessed hook hole. Btu wanted to see if anyones down this before.

Yeah, the reclining seats were an option, but most 1986+ Blazers have them that I have seen. I have never seen a set of reclining buckets that didn't flip forward on both sides. The older ones just flip forward, they don't recline at all.

Correct.. but i want to replace the driver seat with a passenger seat.. has anyone done this? Or if I go with a bench seat do those tilt forward?

The bench seats tilt forward, but they don't slide forward, and they don't hinge.

I couldn't imagine it would be that hard to make the driverside seat flip forward, just get the parts from a parts truck.

Have to look at how the lever is integrated.

Where there is a will there is a way, but I would think at that point, it would be better/easier to swap in the later seats on both sides. IIRC (and I did measure at one point) the tilt/slide seats give more room for entry/exit than the hinge forward passenger seat.

The driver seat should slide forward and back with the lever - adjustment for driver leg length. If you have a parts flip up seat it might be worth messing with, but the driver and passenger seats in the non-reclining style have completely different both patterns. The reclining style with flip and slide offer better access to the back seat. You should measure clearance to the steering wheel before progressing with a flip-up solution. My guess is that it still wouldn't give much access to the back.

Maybe better to go with the reclining style seats on both sides if you're going to pop a bunch of holes in the floor. Or look at swapping for some later model or aftermarket seats.
