Big two days. I replaced the u-joints in the 44, installed new wheel bearings, upper and lower ball joints, and all the oil seals. I'm waiting on new warn hubs and a ton of other parts. I now have THREE PEDDLES and the TH350 comes out next weekend. I'm looking for pictures with measurements illustrating where I'm punching through the fire wall to keep the old school manual clutch linkage if some one can help out. . I could probably guestimate bit would like the keep it as factory looking as I can. Man this truck is clean as far as rust goes, I got super lucky with this find. I'm even warming up to the papa smirf blue, I was thinking of going dark blue in the fall but this is growing on me.

Thanks Dave

The clutch hole is already punched from the factory, it's just capped of with a rubber plug and metal ring about 3" in diameter.

Cant see for looking

Ah, there it is under the sound proofing  ooops. Thanks.

Sweet Jimmy, what year? I just picked up a 71' Jimmy that isn't in nearly as good condition... also Papa Smurf Blue. Mine already came with the SM-465 luckily.

id like to recommend going with a hydro setup... been there done that converting an auto to manual with that Z setup (not sure if your year has that setup) but that clutch was tough on the knees... but now the hydro setup is awww so nice....

Above is my pattern, not sure if that's the "Z" you speak of. The clutch does have over 12" of travel, but I've gotten used to it. At first it seemed like a whole lot of pressure to push it down but now not so much since I've been driving it a while. If I went hydro anything I'd want to first get a PS pump and PS box, mine still has the original fully mechanical steering!

Do you happen to still have the auto steering column and the brake pedal from the auto. I'm going the opposite way......SM465 to 700R4 or 400 turbo auto.

Sorry, I don't have those items. My truck came with the SM-465 from the factory. All numbers match, it even still has the original factory invoice sticker in the glove box to prove it. To avoid completely hi-jacking someone else's thread I'll post pictures in a new thread over the weekend when I can snap a few photos.

Sorry, that question was actually directed at the OP

I think he means the "Z" bar that is part of the clutch linkage. I don't recall what it is actually called but that is the name most of us use for it. It's bolted between the engine block and the frame and can be a real pain in the ass to deal with.

I got sick of mine last year and switched to a hydraulic clutch and I absolutely love the change.

i hated it.. it moved with the frame and body.. clutch pedal moved when going through trails... thank god for hydraulic clutches now...

I think I still have the peddle boss, the column was a mess inside. all the linkage was bent from some ham fisted cave man reefing on it.

I may go that way once I have it on the road. Right now I'm admiring the new crate engine sitting on the shop floor. I've got about six weeks of work before I can drive it but will likely go with the hydro conversion kit once I'm through with all the other previous owner surprises.

just be aware that the hydro uses a different bellhousing than the mechanical Z......

^^^^^^^

$208... wow... guess that is worth it.. looks like a nice setup.. got mine for $100..

it came with a free truck...
oh they drove it to my house...
and i parted it...

not sure if I've seen that novak kit.. I'm sure it works ok, that said, I'd rather have a later model stock setup like Mutt has...

just one of those things it always seemed good to be preemptive about and get what you want in there initially..
