So I am getting tired of the 2 speed wipers I have in my 86 k30. Low and washer work fine but are a bit to fast during light sprinkles.

High comes on and barely works, some times stopping mid sweep. I am sure that the motor needs swapping out which got me to thinking of doing intermittent wipers. What all is needed to make it happen? I believe I need to change the column switch and motor, but is it all build in to those components or is there a different pulse module/rheostat that I need?

86 k30 custom deluxe former wildland fire medic truck. 454 th400 base interior nothing special (yet). I don't mind buying the components so I dont need to do the junkyard crawl, but need to know what is involved.

Thanks guys

IIRC, you just need the right stalk, wiring down to the module, then the module.

I did the "later, dash-mounted" wiper delay conversion years back, and it was a simple matter of adding the delay module and the delay switch, don't think anything other than the location of the stalk changed later on. Delay module clips onto the underside of the column, IIRC where the u-plate that holds the column to the dash bolts, I would suspect then that on your truck, there would be a connector of some sort there. The wiper module uses a flat multi-pin connector.

To add to what Dorian said. The module is plug and play with the right stalk placed in the column. You will need to remove the steering wheel to replace the switch and wiring in the column.

I figured on the column tear down. Is the stalk in reference to the turn/windshield lever? Which I also planned on, and the ribbon wire loom I wasn't sure if it was a full change or wiring is already there just plug in deal as most looms have all the wires in place for rigs with more options and not used type of deal.

Also will need to change out motor as wipers are on the anemic side as was planned anyway. Is it a one motor fits all or different motors for the intermittent set up.

Any sources for stock or even after market. I was looking at Classic but it seems like a build your own from the parts list. Anybody know of a all in one "Chevy package" all parts stalk and modules included, or more of a piece it together deal?

Stock wiper motor you can try Rockauto for Delco parts, but at this point it will probably be Chinese. You can check ebay for "NOS" I suppose, but will probably pay a premium. No idea what difference there was in the motor...I assume your setup already has a wiper motor that does not include the windshield washer pump.

The "stalks" were pretty much as universal as most column parts. Last I was looking, Astro's were a very good donor, especially for the non-chrome stalks. I never liked that electro-plated plastic stuff. :)

I assume it's an early vs. later thing, but some the wiring is all one piece all the way to the delay module from the stalk, and the other design has the connector right at the base of the stalk, which makes replacement much easier if you ever need to.

You PROBABLY can get by without tearing the column down completely, just unbolt the turn signal switch, rotate it out of the way, and with the connector sideways, it will likely fit down through the slot for wiring. As an alternative, you may be able to snake the "two piece" wiring harness up from the base of the column, since that connector is much smaller than the module end.
