Has anyone tried one of these? Sounds like a must have tool.

I read a review in one of the 4weel magazines, and they said that you can change u joints, and axle joints, on the trail with these. That sounds like a good deal to me. The price seems a little high, but most specialized tools aren't cheap, just look at tubing benders, for example.

If you want something to do u-joints, get this 12 ton shop press for $120 from http://www.harborfreight.com

The also have a 6 ton for $70 and I think it's free shipping.

The only thing is you can't carry this with you for on trail repair.

I dont have any luck with those darn things! The last time I tried using ours for U-joints, I shoved the joint through one of the caps!

My stupid fault! :) I just stick with the hammer and socket routine! Sometimes I bust out the torches for stubborn ones. Torches are probably not good for the yoke and shaft, but "knock on wood" so far so good!

Five pound mini sledge...$20. one foot of scrap 2x4...$1.20. Smashing the F%#@ out of your fingers...PRICELESS. Some you can't buy!

Harbor Freight also has a ball joint/u-joint remover tool. Looks similar for $39.99. A friend of mine bought one and I used it to remove his Dana 44 steering u-joints and my Dana 60 steering u-joint. It worked great, I had always used the 5 lb sledge and socket method. This is much less damaging. Another friend of mine bought the tool at the top of the page it works great also but a lot more expensive.
