Coolant flush

Is it a good idea to take the t-stat out and flush. Or replace the clogged t-stat and then flush.
 
I would remove the t-stat and then flush with about 5 to ten gallons of distiled water until the water comes out clean. Distilled water is cheap at Walmart Once the water is clear, replace the t-stat, add coolant and distilled water and you should be good to go.
