I bought a cheapy from Summit, but after doing a little research, it looks like the person who used it here had some issues. I`m using summits aluminum radiator, and it has the hose barb for the overflow at the neck. Will this tank work, or will I need a "recovery" tank?

Here`s the one I got from summit:

Here`s the rad I`m using:

Do I need to get a specific cap for it? Or will one from the help section at the parts store work?

I've got nothing terribly useful to add regarding that, but you can get OEM coolant bottles from your dealer.. even at full retail I think the one for my 84 was all of $38 with tax.

It is my understanding that you need the kind of overflow tank that fills from the bottom and has a overflow tube coming out of the top. That way it can fill and recover.

This is the one I used.

It is kind of a tuner site, but it was pretty cheap and very high quality.

In order for a tank to be used as a recovery tank it must have a tube going to the bottom of the tank so the radiator can syphone water back into the radiator, and you must also have the proper radiator cap for a recovery system. There was a thread about this a couple weeks ago that i replied in.

So a recovery tank is necessary, then? Without it, the rad wouldn`t refill?

The cheapie overflow tanks must be more for the 1/4 mile guys then?

If you want a recovery system the cap must have two rubber seals made for a recovery system.
