Coolant temp problem

I'm pretty sure you fried the guage if you were grounding out all the different terminals on the backside of the guage.
 
thats not good, but should the sending unit portion be getting 12v like it is, I thought the gauge should have one terminal with 12v and the sending unit terminal should only be getting like 4 or volts maybe

or I could be completely wrong?
 
Typically everything in the vehicle NOT dealing with the ECM is 12V. AFAIK GM never cut the voltage down (again on anything not ECM related) in non-24 volt applications.

I only grounded these after the gauge already had stopped working:confused:
