my fan clutch is going out.. is it worth the money to get an aftermarket fan with out the clutch? is there any benefit in cooling or hp? what type of cooling fan do you guys run? thanks....
Just replace it with another fan clutch, like from auto zone. Just don't get the heavy duty one. My girlfriend got the heavy duty one for her blazer and it sounded like a jet taking off. I went with electric fans but that is a lot of work.
Tarey
The factory clutch fan is supposed to be better for fuel economy and power over a rigin or flex fan. I will not buy another flex fan after finding the one I had on my Firebird was cracked. On a side note, make sure you get the right one for your app. I had a diesel one on my truck, and found it to be running too hot at part throttle. I put the right one on, and it runs in the right temp range.
Don't let the clutch get too worn out. I had one that was going out and causing the fan to wobble at high rpm. Eventually the vibrations cracked my aluminum water pump housing and spilled all the fluid out on the interstate. Not cool. I went with a flex fan just to eliminate the possibility of a repeat performance. (I also found me a cast iron water pump.)
