Okay. If I buy a used engine or transmission from a salvage yard, why do I get charged a core charge?

because they want to sell the old core to transmission and engine rebuilders to earn extra money

1st Honestly cause they can. 2nd they do sell to rebuilders and having your core makes more money. 3rd cause they can.
